Geek Art Contest


The Geek Art Contest is a KSU student competition that takes place as a part of Geek Week festivities. Students may submit both original work and re-mix art (i.e. memes) that appeal to, and are representative of, the Geek in all of us here at KSU. Entries are judged and the finalists are included in the “Geek Art Gallery” during Geek Week. Throughout Geek Week, KSU students will have the opportunity to vote on the entry they think is best, and at the conclusion of the week, the entry that has received the most votes will be recognized and the student creator will receive a prize. Contest Rules

KSU Students Only:
This on-line juried art competition is open to all KSU students. Students submitting artwork must be currently enrolled in classes at the time of submission.

Art Categories:

Original Art - You must be the creator of the art and image file you submit to the competition. Your art must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else's copyrighted material.

Remix Art - Art and images from movies or other media may be incorporated into your submission so long as you are adding additional content to the image (i.e. text). 

Entry Fees:
There is no cost to enter the competition.

Repeat Entries:
There is no restriction on entering art that has been entered to previous competitions.

Multiple Entries:
A student may submit multiple entries into the competition, but may only have one of their submissions chosen to be featured in the gallery (which image left to the judges’ discretion).

Non-exclusive Permissions:
By entering this art competition, you are granting us a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork for University purposes. All winning entries will be displayed in the Geek Art Gallery during Geek Week and on the website.

File Sizes and Formats:
Images can be any size. However, for printing purposes, your images are best represented at 4500 pixels on its longest side and at a resolution of 125dpi.  The acceptable file formats are: jpg and png.

Judging Criteria:

  • Does the submitted artwork fit the theme of Geek Week? 
  • Is there a creative interpretation of the subject/ theme?
  • Is the originality of the work interesting?
  • Does the work evoke emotion in the viewer in relationship to the theme (e.g. is it humorous/sad/etc.)?
  • The composition and design of the work is also a judging criteria.

Note: The quality of the images submitted will also play a role in the judging process. It is best if the images submitted are no smaller than 3000px on the longest side.

Original Work:
We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is your original artwork created solely by you. Non-compliance to this rule will be a disqualification of your entry.

Submission Deadlines:
Artworks may be submitted up until 3/25/22 at 12:00pm (noon). No artworks will be accepted past the posted deadline.

Artwork that is chosen for the gallery will be including in the online gallery as a part of Geek Week. Throughout the week, students are able to go online and vote for their favorite piece. At the end of the week, the print that has received the most votes will receive an additional prize.
